R2-Y9 was an orange and black R2-series astromech droid that served in Shadow Squadron as Tag's astromech droid in the early stages of the Clone Wars. During the shortcut Shadow Squandron took to counterattack the Confederacy of Independent Systems new heavy cruiser the Malevolence's attack on the Kaliida Nebula Medical station, Tag's engine was damaged while trying to dodge Neebray, which reside in the Kaliida Nebula. R2-Y9 was destroyed during the counterattack when Tag's BTL-B Y-wing starfighter's engine failed. Tag along with R2-Y9 crashed with that of fellow pilot Matchstick.
